→ Character Name: Xehanort. No last name, just. Xehanort.
→ Canon: Kingdom Hearts
→ Canon Point: After overhearing and barging in on Ansem’s meeting with King Mickey, then leaving
→ Personality: Xehanort is a quiet and ambitious fellow, never once giving up on his desire to learn the truth to the mysteries of the heart. He shows that he’s about to argue with Ansem over the experiments and his body language is one of anger, clenching his fists. He does not let anything stand in his way, but he is also crafty enough to not talk back and to wait for the opportune moment. While he can be patient to a degree, it is far less than that of his past self, Master Xehanort.
In fact, speaking of his experiments, he grows quite eager. This is reflected in the Ansem Reports he penned—numbers one through twelve, as zero was the only one written by Ansem himself. Despite his seemingly strict and serious exterior, as displayed both in Blank Points as well as when he speaks to Ansem, he is an excitable young man when it comes to his pet projects, as his writing in the reports reveals an eager and perhaps young mind—a result of the amnesia.
As well, Xehanort is a man of direct action. While Master Xehanort would incorporate any obstacles he comes across into his plans, a trait well-displayed in Birth by Sleep, Xehanort instead takes direct action. Again, he wastes no time in eliminating the true Ansem and taking his place, leading the world into ruin—which also shows his selfish streak. Nothing matters more to him than his own ambitions and the results of his experiments.
Which brings us to the next point: it doesn’t take too incredibly much for Xehanort to decide to attempt murder simply to continue his experiments. He is incredibly lacking in the morals department, gleefully undertaking inhumane experiments and continuing them much too eagerly, even though he knows the likely result is Heartless.
His curiosity reigns supreme, as he willingly follows a Heartless into the depths of a castle and opens the door to the heart of the world. He becomes consumed by thoughts of this heart, and the mysteries relating to the human heart, as evidenced by the way he talks about them in the reports. In fact, once they are mentioned, they seem to appear a few times in later reports as he laments that he is trapped in this small world with no way to explore beyond it—a similar complaint to what the young Master Xehanort expressed towards Destiny Islands, perhaps hinting that only the universe will be big enough to satisfy his curiosity.
As well, it should be noted that Xehanort is highly charismatic, as are all forms of Xehanort. This can be logically deduced from the fact that both his Heartless and Nobody, directly born from him, are both charismatic as well. It can also be reasoned that this is how he obtained the help of the other five apprentices under Ansem the Wise.
Of note, there is also his bizarre relationship with Braig. While we only see one scene, and he tries to force the other off of him and doesn’t seem to take too kindly to the invasion of space (perhaps hinting that he doesn’t like being touched), Xehanort is still seen walking down the hall with him later, and Xigbar remains his right-hand man even though later Saïx is shown to be his second-in-command when he becomes Xemnas. At the very least, Xehanort tolerates his presence.
→ History: Xehanort technically covers three different peopleBasically, old man possesses a young man, young man uses his giant key to cause amnesia, and then the young fusion, while having amnesia, screws over everyone.
→ Abilities: Canon-wise, the only abilities he has at his canon point—that are not pure speculation—are an unnatural physical strength mentioned in the Ansem Report in KH2, as well as a seeming unnatural ability to learn.
→ Strengths: Xehanort is a very bright young man, able to easily assume the identity of Ansem the Wise after he is banished. As well, he can hide his motives, and can appear to play nice. He is also much stronger than he looks, boasting all the strength of Terra amped up on darkness. He is also shown excelling in the sciences, especially those of the biological sort.
→ Weaknesses: However, it should be noted Xehanort has severe amnesia. All he remembers is his name. Because of this, he does not know his own strength. As well, he care little for the lives of others, and gets overeager in his experiments, leading to the downfall of his own world. As well, one of the first thirteen reports actually mentions that his body was too weak to travel to other worlds, despite seeming to be in perfect health from what we know of him. Given his backstory, it can be concluded that the dueling hearts within him cause a significant amount of strain on his body, leading to him being much more frail to go alongside his unnatural strength.
→ First Person Sample:
[Xehanort rarely speaks so openly. But perhaps this is what he should do to pass the time—contemplate and speak of things with his… “Relative.” It does, after all, pay to have someone to bounce ideas off of, no matter how insane those ideas sound.]
The memory’s wiles are truly strange indeed. I had already thought myself taken with amnesia, now only to be told that all that time was a lie… to be told it was a dream… It sets a precedent that the memory can’t be trusted.
[Yes, he tilts his head back slightly, folding hands in his lap as he contemplates this more. What his “relative” thinks is of little importance.]
Indeed, why should I trust my memory now? What makes it trustworthy, when to begin with, it is only my supposed experiences filtered through the glasses of the mind?
[Thoughts to chew on, indeed.]
→ Third Person Sample:
He’s never truly been one to like the outdoors, much preferring the safety and relative peace of a library, but today he is walking through the park to clear his head. So many thoughts rush through his mind, scientific equations relating to the heart that he had yet to try but are now defunct because it had all been a bizarre dream according to those doctors. And yet, how can he trust them? His memory has already proven faulty, both here and the “dream.” Does that not mean it can’t be trusted? Or, that’s what would be logical.
A heavy sigh as he reaches up, rubbing his temples. He’s stopped for the moment, looking out over the lake. There is much to learn, it seems. So very much, and he intends to learn it all. Regardless of what happens. But damned this wretched device on his ankle that would restrict him to this miserable town and keep him from extending his knowledge beyond the borders of this tiny town. He’ll have to find some way around that. For now, books from the library, historical records, all will prove useful in expanding his horizons while not yet leaving this prison.
“A gilded prison, but a prison nonetheless,” he mutters to himself, chuckling coldly. It’s almost an attempt at humor, but he doesn’t exactly feel like humor at the moment. There are too many unknown variables in the current equation, too many ways the experiment could explode on him. He’ll have to be patient, and perhaps remain that way for much longer than he desires.
